Question from John: Asked on 14/01/2009 Hello,
Some countries I travel to do not have wireless broadband access, there is only dial up internet access available!

Does this notebook/netbook have a 56k modem for internet connection using the telephone line (Dial up connection)

Answer from david s: Answered on 14/01/2009
It does have a modem installed but only for fax not internet

Question from cat: Asked on 18/11/2008 Hi does the product have a pre installed security system? is it a 30day trial?
Also this is for my young daughter, and I have a Vista laptop wifi connected already, will Linux be compatible with this?

Answer from david s: Answered on 18/11/2008
Because of the way linux has been designed you dont really have to put security software on. But if you did there is sofware available for it.

Regarding the connection to WIFI you shouldn't have any issues with both running at once.

Question from joe: Asked on 11/09/2008 Are you getting the 4G models in the different colour varieties?
I was hoping to be able to order the Lush Green shade.
Thanks

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 11/09/2008
Not at the moment but check with our sales team and they'll see if we will be getting them in the near future.

Question from Star: Asked on 07/09/2008 Is 4gb good if you want to save around 100 songs ?
and can you download stuff onto it ?
e.g. limewire.
Is there microsoft word on it ?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 08/09/2008
4GB will just cover 100 songs but if you use all the hard drive space up then it can cause slowdown problems. You can download stuff onto it but once again, if you fill up all the hard drive, it may cause problems. There is a word processing program on the EEEPC.

Question from Sambo: Asked on 16/07/2008 what softwear does this laptop have? i've heard many things like linux, windows xp and open office so i would like to know which one?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 18/07/2008
It has Linux, and OpenOffice, not Windows.

Question from Patricia King: Asked on 08/05/2008 P.S. On 21/11 you said the Asus is not Windows XP compatable then on 23/11 you said it could be installed over Linux. Am I missing something? Thanks

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 09/05/2008
The linux EEE PC is XP compatible, but you need a compatible external USB optical drive in order to install it.

Question from sam: Asked on 12/04/2008 can this run 64-bit windows xp pro because im told this is faster than the standard version and i would like to use non linux compatable apps

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 16/04/2008
No, the Celeron processors can only run 32-bit Windows.

Question from Geedublu: Asked on 02/04/2008 How much RAm will the EEE-PC take, can I upgrade it from what seems the normal 512?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 02/04/2008
Yes you can replace that with a 1GB module. Ignore the 'this will void your warranty' sticker on the RAM cover - Asus changed their mind and DIY RAM upgrades will no longer void your warranty.

Question from MP: Asked on 06/03/2008 Hello. My knowledge of Linux will fit onto the back of a stamp, so sorry if this is a dumb question. Is it possible to conect an 'off the shelf' external CD / DVD drive to this machine? Will Linux OS accept it and does the machine have the port req? Thanks.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 07/03/2008
The laptop does have USB ports, but it is down to the manufacturer of the external devices to write official linux drivers for their devices. If you can not find a drive with official linux drivers, you may be able to find some open source linux drivers for an external CD/DVD drive online.

Question from hewittp: Asked on 26/02/2008 which of your 400 computers is best for playing games

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 28/02/2008
The key attributes of a good gaming machine are high spec processor, dedicated graphics chip and a large amount of system memory.
Rock Xtreme SL Pro
Rock Xtreme 770-T7700
These machines are best for playing games.

Question from Adrian Sharp: Asked on 25/02/2008 I have seen this machine and think it looks fantastic but I need to know if I can use a USB modem with 3G on say Vodafone for when I am moving about and cannot get onto a WIFI network.

I also need to know if files saved on my office machine which runs Microsoft/Windows can be picked up on a Memory Stick for the ASUS - typically Excel files and Word documents

Thanks

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 10/03/2008
It can read excel and word documents, you should be able to use a USB 3G modem as long as you can get the right drivers for it.

Question from niamh: Asked on 19/12/2007 Does this come with a CD reader and or writer?

Question from Helen: Asked on 01/12/2007 I placed my order on 19 Nov on a 3-4 day delivery. Your website stated the laptop was in stock which is the only reason I ordered from you. Please can you let me know when I can expect delivery.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 06/12/2007
Unfortunately the demand for these is enormous at the moment, we have stock coming in and estimate all orders to be fulfilled by December 7th.

Question from John: Asked on 29/11/2007 Is it back in stock now?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 29/11/2007
Stock is due on the 30/11/2007 and further numbers are expected early next week, however the demand for these is overwhelming.

Question from PhilT: Asked on 29/11/2007 dinesh was badly advised - compatibility of different security methods for wifi varies a lot between devices and manufacturers, it isn't because it it Linux you can have the same issue with two XP or Vista PCs with different wireless cards in them.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 29/11/2007
Yes different secuirty methods exist, however if he speaks to customer service they will be able to put him in touch with the correct department that can help.

Question from Ady: Asked on 28/11/2007 When are you expecting the stock to be available? It said yesterday on the website.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 28/11/2007
These should be back in stock tomorrow

Question from Al: Asked on 24/11/2007 You can use the advanced system (Xandros) by following this guide:

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:getkde

Or if you prefer to install another OS, including Ubuntu 7.10 or Windows XP try here:

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/home#installing_alternative_operating_systems

There seems to be lots of community support about this laptop already and it works so well under Linux - providing everything a home user needs to surf the web and do office, so I don't think you would need microsoft office to be honest. OpenOffice (built in) provides Word, Excel and PowerPoint compatible equivalents.

Question from gilf: Asked on 23/11/2007 It says it has a custom version of Xandros Linux, are you able to get a linux command line, specifically I would want to use ssh to get access to a server etc.

In other words is it a functional Linux machine or is it limited to the apps provided with no access to the underlying Linux software?

I would presume it is limited to the applications provided, however I would recommending contacting the manufacturer directly regarding this as they may be able to help further.
