For detailed aerial mapping, sensor quality can make a real difference to the data you bring home. The DJI Zenmuse P1 pairs a 45MP full-frame sensor with a three-axis gimbal and interchangeable fixed-focus lenses. It’s designed for photogrammetry and supports 24mm, 35mm and 50mm DJI DL lenses. Choosing a drone camera with the right sensor and lens can help you match image detail and field of view to the size of the site.

Map ground and structures with the right sensor

Different jobs need different drone payloads. The DJI Zenmuse L2 combines LiDAR with an RGB camera, so it can collect point-cloud and colour data during a survey. It has a maximum point-cloud rate of 1.2 million points per second with multiple returns. Its two scanning modes also suit different jobs: repetitive scanning focuses on even, accurate coverage, while non-repetitive scanning can collect more structural detail through vegetation.

Choose a lens and payload that fit your aircraft

Compatibility comes first when building an aerial imaging setup. The Zenmuse P1 and L2 work with selected DJI Matrice aircraft, including the Matrice 300 RTK, Matrice 350 RTK and Matrice 400. LiDAR measures distance using laser pulses and can be useful around trees and complex ground. Users working in aerial surveying often choose LiDAR where vegetation makes the ground harder to see. It can. UK class weight limits include the payload, so added equipment can affect the total flying weight and the rules that apply. For example, the UK0 limit is below 250g including payload. Check the complete take-off weight and aircraft class when changing your setup.

For business use, there can be extra duties around how footage is collected, stored and shared. Knowing the camera's zoom and recording range can also help avoid capturing more than you need.
