no as the ipod shuffle is charged and plays through stereo jack and not the standard ipod connection.

I am considering buying this item for a friends birthday, but wasn't planning on telling her that its refurbished. Is ot obviously refurbished? i.e. Does it come in the original box etc?

It does come in its original box, but with it being an A2 refurbished unit, it will have light scratches to the gloss surface & the box will look like it s been opened.
