LaCie – a part of Seagate – know that technology has sped up since the last Rugged, which is why these new, smaller and more protected drives - up to IP67 – now come fitted with an SSD, plus a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port for extremely fast transfer speeds.
FIVE SPICES
The Rugged SSD comes in five varieties, three in the classic orange, featuring a Barracuda NVMe Drive in the 500GB version, while the 1TB and 2TB come with a FireCuda NVMe inside. The ones encased in black have a Thunderbolt 3 port on, for those who are working on an intensive project that requires the intensive 40Gb/s speeds needed from that type of port.
THE POWER OF NVME
NVMe drives provide a much faster speed than regular hard drives and even boast speeds that go way above regular SSDs too. Don't get bogged down during the boring bit of the job, as these drives cut down the time you would need to ingest tonnes of 4K footage into your workflow or back up your precious RAW photos.
NO PEEKING
Certain LaCie drives, like the Rugged SSD, have hardware encryption to prevent theft of data on board if the drive was stolen. The Rugged SSD and Pro versions both come with Rescue Data Recovery Services (eligible for one rescue), where LaCie's and Seagate's top people will work to retrieve your data in the event of a massive, irretrievable data loss.
